I'm using Windows 7 and was access a USB drive with a lot of important research documents (including my thesis which I have been working on all year), and the Windows Explorer decided to hang on me.Īfter closing the window, I am now unable to access my USB.
Testdisk none partition full#
r-studio may find the missing missing partitions when you do a full scan for files, and it may not.īasically if PF&M doesn't find the partitions, you will be down to doing a low level file recovery by identifying the file type signatures in file headers and carving the files out.Hello everyone, this is my first post here but sadly this is also something I have become quite desperate with. If PF&M and test disk don't recognize the partitions, you will have to scan for file signatures to recover the individual files, the directory structure may or may not still be intact and readable. If that fails, then you will need to scan for file signatures with either r-studio or stellar. I would not overwrite the partition table with the data you are seeing, did you check the backup partition table? The data wil still be there - I prefer r-studio to stellar, I use them both in the recovery lab, but with either one you will have to scan for files, at this point the partition table has been overwritten with the single partition information, if the backup doesn't look correct in test_disk, then the next step would be partition find and mount, it may find the other partitions by scanning cylinder boundaries for partitition start signatures.

IF i choose to write the structure with the ONE logical drive detected by testdrive, will it OVERWRITE all the datas in the disk ? I mean, will it whipe out the remaining 250 gb data present making it unrecoverable ? Is there any way to get the testdisk tool to detect all the logical drives by tweaking its settings ? The remaining 3 are missing which are over 250 GB of data (100, 50, 50) Similarly, Stellar phoneix windows data recovery tool, also detected only one logical drive in the 500 GB HDD. When i started running the scan on testdisk tool, it ONLY detected one partition of of the actual four. The actual partition and the DATAS i had stored yesterday were not showen. In disk management it shows as complete 500 GB, with one partition of 128 gb and rest unallocated space. However, it still shows shows only 128gb and when i click on it it asks if i should partition.

As i mentioned earlier, it only helped showing the disk as 500 gb. I installed SP2 couple of hours back after knowing about the 48bit issue from this board. What are the chanes of data recovery from the old HDD? Should i try recovering data from the old hard disk? the problem is, as soon as i completed copying data to the new harddisk yesterday, i completely re paritioned the hardidsks into one partition, and formatted it. How do I recover the three other lost partitions. It only shows the datas on the one 250 gb partition.Ģ50 gb - media files )had 70 percent filesĬURRENT DETECTION AFTER USING TESTDISK (Have only scanned, haven written the structure yet)Ģ50 GB (Looks like all data one this are available) The scan so far which has finished 50% shows NO sign of the datas on the other three logical drive partitions (100, 50, 50 gb). I have been running stellar phoneix for windows past 12 hours to see what raw data it can recover. What could be the reason for other three logical partitions to go missing ?Ĭurrently i haven proceeded with the writing option in testdrive. I'm really in need of some way to recover the data as I had formatted my old drives. I have even tried deeper searching, it doesn help. The rest of THREE logical drives 100, 50 and 50 are MISSING. But the scan was able to find only ONE logical drive which is 250 gb. The actuall partition was not there.Īfter going through the post here, I scanned it using the exact instructions as its listed on the sticky post. Once I installed sp2 and viewed the drives using Windows disk manaagement, I was able to see full 500 gb hd but again with 128 gb unformatted. Once installed, i was able to see only a 128 gb unformatted drive on my comp except for the old 40 gb drives volumes. So I had to refix the old 40 gb hd and complete the installation. It only showed it as 130 gb hdd which needs to be formatted. Even while it started the installation it failed to detect the 500 GB hd.
Testdisk none partition install#
The problem started when i removed my old drives today and tried to install fresh copy of win xp (no sp).

The 500 gb was partiontioned into four logical drives. I moved all the files from the old disks to the new 500 gb yesterday. The system already had a 160 gb sata disk and a two 40 gb disk. I bought and installed a new 500 gb hard disk day before which started working perfectly fine. Weird Issue - Testdisk detects only one partition - MISSING 250 GB
